Inner Family Member Takeover Reparenting Guided Practice
You can use this anytime you find yourself in an Inner Family Member Takeover. The Loving Parent Guidebook says that the following may be indications that we are experiencing a takeover…
You take on the inner family member’s feelings and act out their urges or impulses.
You go into storytelling mode, focusing on what someone else did or said rather than your inner experience.
You over-identify with the inner family member’s viewpoint or beliefs.
Your voice sounds different—as if you’re speaking like that inner family member.
You notice you’re people-pleasing, feeling guilty for saying no, or engaged in traits from The Laundry List or The Other Laundry List.
Panic attacks or tunnel vision.
You lose all sense of time.
Sense of urgency (unless there is an immediate physical danger).
It seems like a feeling has been going on forever and will never end.
